I don’t know about you, but when it comes to working on my fitness during the summer, I want something that’s quick, easy, and will leave me feeling good. Personally, I feel like there’s no time to waste, and I’d rather spend my free time outdoors or doing summery activities like hitting up the beach or enjoying a summer cocktail on a rooftop bar. However, taking care of yourself and your health is a must all year-round. So while summer may be the season filled with drinks, food, and parties galore, our physical health shouldn’t be neglected. So, alas: We must get in those summer workouts.
Two viral fitness trends 2022 has seen have been more workouts requiring little-to-no equipment, and prioritizing fun workouts over anything else. Turns out, summer gives us the perfect opportunity to do both of those things. With the use of outdoor elements and nice weather working out can be fun, and fun workouts can leave you feeling strong and snatched all summer long. Keep on reading to learn the 6 summer workouts that are anything but boring.
6 fun summer workouts:
1. Outdoor Pilates or yoga
Pilates is great for toning up, building lean muscle, and improving posture, while yoga, on the other hand, is a great way to combat weight gain and improve your overall mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. So, not only are these both effective workouts, but they can also be done anywhere, any time, with little-to-no equipment needed.
Grab any workout bands you may need for your Pilates workout, or get your yoga mat and head outside. You can do these workouts in your yard, at a local park, on the beach, etc. Outdoor Pilates and yoga will really help you center yourself and connect with nature while getting a good workout in. Be sure to look up any potential outdoor Pilates or yoga classes that might be going on near you as well. If you can’t attend a class, pull up a free workout on YouTube; there are numerous free ones out there.

2. Volleyball or badminton
Nothing screams “summer” more than a game of volleyball or badminton. Whether it in a backyard, an outdoor sports complex, or on the beach, these are summer activities that will definitely get your muscles moving and burn some calories. It’s also a fun activity to do with friends and family.
3. A water sport activity
If you’re an adventurous water lover, you’ll love an outdoor water sports activity. There are numerous kinds available: Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP, for short), kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, wakeboarding, surfing, and so on and so on forth.
4. Swimming
Swimming is the perfect summer workout, and it comes with a lot of benefits. It’s low-impact—which makes it great for those with any injuries or joint pain—and works your arms, core, glutes, and legs while building up cardiovascular strength and endurance. Plus, you can do it all without breaking a sweat.
Try swimming in an ocean, pool, lake, or pond. Depending on your fitness level and swimming skills, there are quite a few things you can try. If you’re a beginner, try swimming assisted with a noodle or on your own for 30 minutes-1 hour (an hour swim burns more calories than running) at your own pace. If you’re a more advanced swimmer, try doing laps.
5. Go for a bike ride
It’s time to trade in that stationary bike for the real thing: Get outside and go on a bike ride! Riding a bike is a great aerobic exercise that promotes heart health and healthy muscles.
Although bike rides can be done solo, they’re also great when done with a companion (or companions, if you’re super popular). Having a buddy to ride alongside you will help you both hold each other accountable and give you motivation to show up for the workout.
