And from celebrities putting their dreams out into the universe and things like lucky girl syndrome taking over TikTok, manifestation is all the rage RN. And with all of the buzz surrounding it, I can’t help but wonder: How exactly do you manifest your dream life?

Make no mistake: Manifestation is very, very real. However, I wanted to know the steps one should take to make all of their wildest dreams come true. Which is why I tapped the help of clairvoyant, intuitive, and energy healer Janet Rae Orth for her expert insight on all things manifestation.

1. Be specific about what you want to manifest

“It is very important to be specific about what you want to manifest,” Orth told me. “Where you put your attention is what you will create.” She then went on to use the example of someone living in Chicago who’s trying to manifest their dream job in the city because they don’t want to move, only to have an offer from a company in Hong Kong. “They thought of all the qualities they wanted the company to have—what the culture and people are like, what the pay is—but they forgot to think of where the job would be,” Orth explained. “That detail is very important.”

According to Orth, the best thing you can do when manifesting is be as specific as you can about all the things that really matter to you. “Does it matter if your dream person has blue eyes or brown? For most of us, no, that detail is not important. Know what is important, though, and be clear about it.”

2. Get clear on your intentions

Getting clear on your intentions is another key part of manifestation, and in order to do that, Orth recommends taking your time. “Don’t rush,” she warned. “Go inward and let it percolate. Use your imagination—think about what you want and see yourself doing it, being it, or having it.”

Furthermore, you can also try visualizing your intentions. This means witnessing yourself in the scenario you’re trying to manifest; view yourself the same way you would a character in a book or movie. “Feel it, and as you watch it unfold in your imagination, be specific about what is there and what isn’t,” Orth said. This will also help you figure out whether or not you’ve forgotten something in your intentions.

3. Act like you already have it

The old saying “don’t just talk the talk, walk the walk” applies here. Once you have a specific goal in mind and have gotten clear on your intentions, you can then turn your dream into a reality by owning it. “Act like you already have it,” Orth explained simply. Likewise, you can also think about what your life will look like when you have what you’re pining for. “Have certainty that you will get it,” Orth assured.

In addition, Orth also recommends making a detailed vision board and hanging it somewhere you can’t see it (like in your closet behind your clothes). This will allow you to let go of the dream so it can come back to you. “If you hang it where you can see it daily or carry it around with you, you’re holding onto it. It can’t come back to you,” she explained. “You are keeping it in the space of I want this—not I have it.” This mindset means that your goal is always in the future. “Be excited about what is coming into your life,” Orth said. “Be specific, and then believe you will have it.”

4. Feel your own dreams and desire

Orth also told me that it’s crucial to clear out other people’s expectations of you and separate them from whatever you’re trying to manifest. “People mean well—they care about us—but what they want or think is right for us may not be what we want,” she explained. “Be aware of that.”

To combat this, Orth implores you to go within and feel your own dreams and desire, and give yourself permission to be true to yourself. “If it is coming from outside of you, that isn’t you,” she said. If there are other people in your heart, Orth suggest trying to say hello to them; thank them for caring and loving you. Then, you can let them know you value them but have a different dream for yourself.

5. Let go of negative feelings and expectations

Constantly trying to create or holding onto fear or doubt is only going to block you from manifesting your dream life. “Those are signs you don’t believe you can have it, and therefore, you are blocked from getting it. The energy of not believing is in the way,” Orth said. ” Likewise, feelings of anxiety, sadness, or saying things like “I want to meet someone but people my age are taken or unavailable” or “successful people are always emotionally unavailable” will also hinder you.

“If you think ‘I want this but it is going to be impossible to get,’ you will manifest that it is impossible,” Orth explained. “We need to clear these negative feelings and expectations out first, so we only have positive expectations.” So, identify any negative emotions or expectations you’re feeling, and let them go. Give yourself the space to see that these things are lies, and that you are a divine, deserving human being. You can also try looking at yourself as if you were someone else to reframe your thinking.

6. Keep your energy clear

Keeping your energy clear and open is what’s going to allow newer, better things to enter your life. So in addition to letting go of negative feelings and expectations, keep your energy clear. Be mindful of your thoughts; give yourself the space to sit with them, then after some time has passed, bid them adieu for good. Additionally, Orth also has a few exercises you can practice to release negative feelings, emotions or energy blocks to keep your channel clear.

Practices to release negative feelings, emotions, or energy blocks and keep your channel clear:

  • Write down all your blocks on a list, then burn or tear it up
  • Imagine those negative feelings or words as an image in your mind. Then, erase the image
  • Light a black candle in a glass jar, put it on your stove, and tell yourself that once the candle is done burning, you’re done with these feelings
  • Drop everything down to your grounding cord. The grounding cord lets you hold and claim space for yourself as you bring yourself closer to your center. Orth has specific guided meditation tools that can help with this too
