Sun Sign

Even those who aren’t into astrology probably know what their sun sign is because it corresponds with your date of birth. When someone asks you what your sign is, this is the answer you’ll give them. “I’m a Virgo” or “I’m a Taurus,” etc.

Your sun sign represents vitality, sense of self, and ego. The sun also plays a role in how you express yourself. However, it’s quite common to feel like you don’t identify fully with your sun sign. This is due to the fact that the sun gives general traits and characteristics found in each sign. For example: I’m a Virgo; and while I am hardworking, responsible, and dependable, I am not the stereotypical “perfectionist” or “neat freak” Virgo’s often associated with.

If you’re like me and don’t fully vibe with every trait of your sun sign, you’ll probably see parts of yourself reflected back at you generally speaking. Some people also take a little bit to grow into their sun sign as well.

That said, the sun is only the beginning of your astrology birth chart. It’s more a representation of the outer self rather than the inner self because it’s very generalized rather than personalized. Your moon and rising sign go a little deeper.

Moon Sign

The moon is where things really get deep. Our moon sign gives us insight into our emotional responses, self-image, and the unconscious part of our mind. The moon is where we can really learn more about ourselves and how we work as individuals; we can gain more self-awareness by taking the time to use our moon sign and glimpse into our unconscious mind.

When I first started getting into crystals I found myself constantly drawn to blue ones (coincidentally, my birthstone is Sapphire). When I was talking to someone about my attraction to blue stones they asked if I was a fire sign since they tend to be drawn to the color blue and water. And though my sun sign is an earth sign (Virgo), it turns out that my moon sign is a fire sign: Sagittarius. My attraction to the color blue was my subconscious mind and innermost feelings being played out and expressed in the world.

Your moon sign represents the inner you, emotions, and how you express yourself in the world. If you’ve ever found yourself puzzled and unable to identify with your sun sign, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to identify with your moon sign.

Rising Sign

The rising sign (AKA ascendant) symbolizes how one acts in life. It’s a representation of your attitude in life, how you present yourself, and how others perceive you. Experts say that in order to get the most accurate horoscope reading, you should go by your rising sign.

The ascendant is extremely unique to each individual because it changes every two hours. Your rising sign is dependent on the time you were born. Two people born on the same day, in the same town, and in the same building can still have wildly different personalities thanks to their rising sign.

Knowing your rising sign can help you learn more about how you make first impressions, conscious or subconsciously. Sometimes we unknowingly project our subconscious thoughts and beliefs about ourselves into the world. If you go for a job interview you’re highly qualified for but don’t believe you’re good enough deep down, you may come across as meek and underqualified to your potential employer and ultimately cost yourself the position.

In conclusion…

Learning about your Big Three Astrology Signs can give you more insight into yourself and how you operate, your emotional responses, and how others perceive you. Your sun, moon, and rising sign can help you better understand all aspects of your personality. You may strongly identify with one sign or have a combination of all three. When it comes down to it, it’s all about the individual.
