Beauty Pick of the Month: Ulta Tinted Mineral Face Lotion SPF 30

Beauty Pick of the Month: Ulta Tinted Mineral Face Lotion SPF 30

It’s July 1st, which means we’re officially in the thick of summer. Protecting your skin is crucial during these months, as we’re usually outside and in the sun more than ever. Sunscreen is a must, and though skincare experts will argue that mineral sunscreen is your best defense against sun damage and aging because it sits on top of your skin and acts as an actual barrier, mineral sunscreens often leave behind a chalky, white residue. Even if you’re wearing sunscreen underneath makeup you won’t be able to eliminate that residue completely. This is where a tinted mineral sunscreen comes in–you’re still getting all the benefits of a mineral sunscreen, minus the white finish it leaves behind.

Cue Flawless World’s July beauty pick of the month: Ulta tinted mineral face lotion with SPF 30. This lightly tinted moisturizer leaves a matte finish, blends into skin beautifully, and so much more. Below I’m going to break down what the product is, why I’m loving it, and how I apply it. Let’s get into it.

What is it?

Where to buy:

I purchased this product online, but it is also available in Ulta Beauty stores. Check online for store availability to find out if your local shop has this in stock.

Why I’m loving it:

One of the reasons I love this product is because of how easily it blends into my skin, especially around the eye area. When I apply other mineral sunscreens, I sometimes feel as though I have to really tug on my skin in order to blend it in as best as possible, and in doing so, I end up missing my eye area a lot of times because I want to avoid pulling on that delicate skin as much as possible. Unlike a typical sunscreen that goes on tacky, this goes on like a lotion and leaves no white residue behind.

Also, can we talk about that affordable AF price point?! I purchased this online when Ulta Beauty was having a sale and snagged one for $9.99 and got a second one 50% off. (They have deals online a lot, so be sure to check them out!) Another thing I love about this product is that it has SPF 30. I learned from my dermatologist that SPF 30 is all you need to protect yourself against the sun, going up higher only increases your defenses slightly. It’s nice knowing that I’m safe when I’m wearing this.

Lastly, this mineral tinted face lotion also lays beautifully underneath makeup and on top of moisturizer. The matte formula gives it long-lasting staying power, and I don’t ever feel like it’s slipping around or pilling. The only gripe I have about this product is that it comes in one color. I have golden and olive undertones (I always use yellow baking powder), so my undertone is very neutral. I’ve been outside pretty regularly for a month and half at this point, I’m only going to get tanner, and as of right now, this product is just a tad too light for me. I’d love to see various shades that cater to everyone because I really think this is a great product. The reason I didn’t let that deter me is because of the fact that it still gets the job done, applies nicely, and is the first mineral sunscreen I’ve come across that hasn’t made me look deathly. For $9.99, it gets the job done.

Application:

The first thing I do is squeeze a little product onto my ring finger and dab it underneath my eyes, usually in three dots. I’ll then pat the product into my skin gently using my ring finger. Next, I’ll move on to my chin, as that’s where I’m prone to hormonal breakouts and want to avoid any sun getting in there. I’ll blend the product in using circular motions. After that, I’ll take the product in both hands and apply to my cheeks, nose, forehead, jawline, and neck. I blend upward using circular motions. Lastly, I’ll apply some to my hands (that’s where we show our age!), blend it in like a hand cream/moisturizer, and I’m done! If I’m going outside, I’ll typically reapply every two hours. When applying underneath makeup, I’ll start off with my eyeshadow so the sunscreen has time to fully sink into my skin. However, if you’re not getting completely glammed up, you can wait two-five minutes before applying makeup.
