What’s In My Makeup Bag: A Guide For Beginners

What’s In My Makeup Bag: A Guide For Beginners

I am the girliest girl in the world when it comes to everything except makeup. Only recently have I really taken an interest in learning more about it. I’ve really enjoyed playing around with different looks! In today’s world, however, makeup trends change at the drop of a dime. With the power of social media, it can be hard to keep up. While I am no makeup guru, below I’ve listed basic products every girl can keep in their makeup bag, especially if they’re just starting out.

Disclaimer: I’ve learned a lot recently and have invested in multiple beauty products, but I still consider myself a beginner. These are the products I always keep in my makeup bag, no matter what.

Lumi Glotion by L’Oreal

Color: Medium

This is one of the only TRUE true color-match products I’ve ever used. The lumi glotion is lightweight and provides long lasting coverage. It really does give you a natural, radiant glow, while hydrating your skin at the same time! You can use it as a highlighter, contour, or as an all over glow—use alone, or under or over foundation. I personally use this as a substitute for foundation and wear it alone because I typically find foundation too heavy. I’ve found it lasts at least six months, and is only $9.79 at Target.

Lumi Glow Nude Highlighter Palette by L’Oreal

Color: Moonkissed

Okay, I’ll admit it: highlighting is my absolute favorite part of doing my makeup. I once read: “if you can’t see my highlighter from outer space, then I’m not wearing enough.” I honestly could not agree more with that statement! I love this powder highlighter palette because it’s easy to apply using your fingers or a brush. The 4 shades can pair well with any skin tone. This palette has colors for either a subtle or blinding glow. Just one swipe across your cheekbones will have you feeling like a new woman! I purchased mine at Ulta Beauty for $14.99.

Avon Glow Bronzing Pearls by Avon

Color: Bronzed

Since I only learned how to contour my cheeks about a year and a half ago, I stick with what I was taught with: my Avon glow bronzing pearls. I used to use this only as a bronzer on my cheeks, but have now switched to using it as a powder contour. I use the sponge it comes with for application, then blend with a fluff brush, and that’s it—it’s so simple! I’ve always loved Avon, and have always found their products very durable. The pearls come in two colors: sunkissed, and bronzed.

REVLON COLORSTAY CRÈME EYESHADOW

COLOR: CHERRY BLOSSOM

Colored eyeshadow is something I’d previously always shied away from simply because I was too scared to wear anything other than gold. I didn’t realize what a world of difference colored eyeshadow could bring to your eyes. Pink is now my new go-to, and the best part about that is that there are so many different shades of pink to play around with! This creamy eyeshadow glides on smoothly, and has a gorgeous pink tint. This particular eyeshadow comes in an array of colors. Get it for $8.49 here.

ROSE GOLD EYESHADOW PALETTE BY ULTA BEAUTY

I stumbled upon this palette a couple months ago. It was one of my very rare impulse purchases, but I am so so so glad that I bought it! The palette has 12 colors and a variety of shades in matte, glitter, or shimmer textures. It also comes with an amazing brush! It does take a little bit to blend sometimes, but overall, I’d say it’s a good starter palette for anyone interested in playing around with various eyeshadow colors. Definitely a good $20 impromptu purchase.

AVON TRUE COLOR GLIMMERSTICKS WATERPROOF EYELINER BY AVON

SHADE: BLACKEST NIGHT

Before I even knew any of the basics of makeup, I always used eyeliner. (I just learned how to apply it correctly a month ago, but that’s besides the point.) The Avon Glimmersticks eyeliner has always been my personal favorite for as long as I can remember due to its gel-like, creamy, easy to apply formula. This is a must have staple for every women’s makeup bag. Plus side? It’s also retractable, self-sharpening, and doesn’t tug on your eyelids. Get it on Avon’s website here. P.S—it really does shimmer beautifully. <3

THE FALSIES PUSH UP DRAMA MASCARA BY MAYBELLINE

COLOR: BLACKEST BLACK

Mascara is a foolproof tool all of us should always have in our arsenal. The key, however, is finding one that works well with our specific lashes. My lashes are really dark and thick naturally, so I always look for a mascara that has a good lift and volume. This particular mascara is my absolute favorite. I don’t bother trying anything else now. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? No one mascara will work amazingly for everyone simply because our lashes are all different , but a lot of people I’ve talked to have said they really like Maybelline’s mascara. The Falsies collection by Maybelline has multiple different types of mascara. Find what one works best for you. If you’re interested in a mascara with a dramatic, volumizing effect, then this one is the one for you.

TOTAL FACE SPONGE BY e.l.f

This sponge is easy to use for blending, concealing, highlighting, or contouring! It can be used wet or dry. I really like the products e.l.f makes, and this was no disappointment. It’s versatile and won’t break the bank—it’s only $4.00! Click here to get it.

NATURAL KISS LIP ENHANCER BY ART NATURALS

This natural lip enhancer serum plumps your lips naturally and also softens them by using shea butter and extracts of sunflower oil. The natural ingredients honestly do enhance your lips without having to use a needle. Unfortunately, this product isn’t available anymore on the Art Naturals website or Amazon, but a natural lip enhancer serum might be something to look into if you haven’t yet. Look for one that can be used alone or underneath lip gloss or lipstick.

That’s it for my makeup bag! Did I miss anything? Is there a product I didn’t mention that you always keep in your makeup bag? Feel free to let me know in the comments below!
