It’s a new year, which means it’s time to try and set the vibe right. Whether that means setting New Year’s resolutions, mapping out certain goals for yourself, or even becoming more successful in your career, the time to do it is now. If 2020’s taught us anything, it’s that life is too short; don’t wait, start today.
Going into 2021 with the mindset that you’re going to prioritize and commit to wellness habits will help make this year that much better, and also give you better tools so you’re equipped for whatever struggles come your way.
Below I’ve broken down the wellness habits you should commit to in 2021. Implement these into your daily life to vibe higher, achieve the ultimate state of mindfulness, and be ready to handle anything that comes your way.
Wellness habits to commit to in 2021:
- Find and utilize healthy discharges of energy. Energy builds and builds until it has no place else to go, and then it comes out in some way. The same is true for emotions—suppressing them will only make them come out in an explosive manner later on. Everything needs to be released. Instead of bottling things up, find healthy discharges for your energy and emotions that will allow you to release them in the best way possible. Some examples of healthy discharges include journaling, speaking to a professional, taking walks in the fresh air to clear your mind, and reading self-help and wellness books. These things will help avoid explosions later on. Healthy discharges also allow you to acknowledge and deal with your emotions without dwelling on them.
- Drink plenty of h2O. In case you haven’t heard, there are many reasons why you should be drinking water. Make drinking plenty of water daily a priority for 2021. You’ll reap the beauty benefits, and not only will your body feel better, it’ll also thank you for the all-natural cleanse. Drink a gallon of water every day.
- Prioritize taking care of your body. In addition to drinking plenty of water, prioritizing taking care of your body is another wellness habit you should commit to in 2021. Take the time to take care of your skin (don’t sleep with your makeup on and moisturize daily!), exercise regularly (even if it’s just a walk), incorporate healthy foods into your diet but still allow yourself treats from time-to-time, and of course, drink plenty of h2O. Taking care of your body will make you feel good and healthy which will also help get and keep your mindset right. Plus, when you feel good, you look good.
- Less screen time and more books. Everyone is consumed by their phones. Try letting go of that extra screen time in 2021 and replace it with more reading. One of the only good things about COVID is that it’s given us more time to try and do things we normally wouldn’t be able to—like reading. You don’t have to read from a hardcover book, either, you can listen to audiobooks, or read an e-book through your phone, tablet, or kindle. Reading is one of the best things you can do for your mind. It gets your brain working, increases your vocabulary, improves your detective skills through fiction, and nonfiction and self-help books can help you learn and grow as person. If you feel pressed for time, start with making time for books for 5-10 minutes daily.
- Cook more. Wintertime is one of the best times of the year to cook because most people are stuck inside. Now, with COVID and things closing, going out to restaurants isn’t what it used to be. Instead of ordering takeout or throwing things in the microwave, start cooking more. This will not only improve your cooking skills, but your lifestyle as well. You’ll also be aware of what you’re eating, which might inadvertently lead you to making healthier choices, thus improving your wellness.
- Dive in to everything. Life is way too short to wait for anything. Don’t hold yourself back from the things you want in 2021; don’t make up excuses about timing or what the future holds. Instead, focus on the present, and what you can do to make all of your dreams come true. Once you’ve figured that out, dive in. Don’t wait, and don’t hold back.
- Meditate daily. Daily meditation is a wellness practice that I swear by; it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. Meditation helps you stay grounded and gives you the opportunity to clear your thoughts/mind. Additionally, meditation can help with pain management, which is amazing for those suffering from chronic pain or injuries. I personally love meditating every morning after my shower because it helps clear my mind, keeps me focused, and makes me feel grounded. Add in a daily meditation to your routine and you’ll be reaping the benefits in no time.
- Mind your business. Only focusing on and putting your energy into things that directly affect you is one of the best things you can do for yourself. This year, make it a goal to mind your own business. Don’t get caught up in other people’s problems or possible what-if’s; instead, focus on the here and now, and what’s going on in your life. All of us have way too much going on to be worrying about things that don’t directly affect us.
- Work on surrendering. The idea of relinquishing control can be scary, but it is the most freeing feeling. In 2021, make surrendering to the things you can’t control a habit. Doing this will allow you to only focus on the important things, and also allow more opportunity for new things to come to you. For me, 2021 is all about surrendering.
